Ben Watson started lifting with St. Birinus at the age of 11. He is the club’s most successful lifter having won national titles in every age group. Most recently winning English and British senior titles. Ben has represented England and GB in European, Commonwealth and World championships. His greatest achievement to date was his performance in the 2014 Commonwealth Games. He was the England team captain and most successful male lifter, taking the Bronze medal in the 105kg class and winning the Snatch with a new and out standing personal best of 157kg.
He has a wide range of coaching experience. Consistently achieving success with lifters in competitions. His experience includes teaching and coaching lifting to beginners and coaching and programming for senior and junior internationals. He has coached lifters in competitions at all levels from schools to international tournaments. His personal experience and success at the very highest level gives Ben an insight that he can pass on to lifters, on how to prepare, train and perform at their very best. He also practiced and used psychological skills in training and competition in order to improve his chances of success. He now passes on this knowledge and experience to the lifters he works with at St. Birinus Weightlifting club.
